Anietie Isong makes the 2018 9mobile Prize for Literature Longlist
Jacaranda Books author Anietie Isong’s novel Radio Sunrise has been longlisted for the 2018 9mobile Prize for Literature, formerly known as the Etisalat Prize.
Isong’s story of Ifiok, a young journalist working for the government in Lagos, shows a satirical view of life in Nigeria where, try as he might, Ifiok cannot avoid ‘towing the line’ and following the crowd.
Alongside Radio Sunrise, Qarnita Loxton’s What it Means When a Man Falls Down from the Sky by Lesley Nneka Arimah, Asylum by Marcus Low and Ayobami Adebayo’s Stay with Me are just four of the other novels to make the longlist.
This year’s judging panel includess Doreen Baingana, Siphiwo Mahala, and is chaired by Harry Garuba.
Awarded to the author with the best debut African novel, the winner of the 2018 9mobile Prize will take home £15,000 as well as a fellowship at the University of East Anglia to study creative writing.
The shortlist of three titles will be announced in January 2018.
