Author of A Quick Ting On Afrobeats, Christian Adofo, shares his expertise on the history of Afrobeats for music magazine Billboard. 

Despite the recent meteoric rise of the genre, Afrobeats has been around since the 1940s in the form of Afrobeat and has evolved many times into different versions of itself in the form of Highlife, Burger Highlife and Rap. 

Highlighting the links between American artists and African ones, Christian gives a sample of the rich history of the Afrobeats sounds and how it has spread from West Africa in the 1960s to Europe and America in the 90 until the present day.
