Oxford Literature Festival welcomes Anni Domingo and A Quick Ting On's Rui Da Silva and Tobi Kyeremateng

In this year's Oxford Literature Festival there will be two events hosted by Jacaranda editors in conversation with their authors. 

On Friday 1st April, Jacaranda's Valerie Brandes will be in conversation with debut author Anni Domingo. Anni's beautiful novel Breaking the Maafa Chain follows Salimatu and her sister Fatmata who are captured, sold to slavers, renamed and split apart. The book is a searing chronicle of two sisters' struggle for true freedom in the mid-nineteenth century, when transporting slaves from Africa to America was an illegal but lucrative business.

Inspired by the life of Sarah Forbes Bonetta, Valerie and Anni will explore the process of writing this award winning historical fiction.

On Saturday 2nd April, the creator and multi-award winning editor of the first non-fiction book series A Quick Ting On, Magdalene Abraha, will interview authors Rui Da Silva and Tobi Kyerematang.

A Quick Ting On is the first ever series of its kind, exploring the history and evolution of Black culture in Britain. 

Through exploring the sentimental meaning plantain has within Black households and cultures alike, Rui Da Silva's A Quick Ting On Plantain reveals how food within the Black community is an intimate marker of identity and culture. 

Tobi Kyerematang's A Quick Ting On Theatre Sh*t explores the modern age of Black British theatre, dissecting and recontextualizing what we know it to be.
